Old business:
- Name Tags:
Bob Lawrence stated that Jacob was working on the SARC name tags.
- Field Day 2009.
The 2009 SARC Field Day was discussed. The ARRL 2009 Field Day was on June 27th and 28th this year.
We had a discussion of the SARC 2009 Field Day.
We felt the following items need attention before next year's field day.
- Logging Program
We had to retype all the entries from this years Field Day because the program was used on (2) laptops with different operating systems.
It was agreed that we purchase the N3FJP Field Day software with networking for $10. Motion made by John - KE4HIE, seconded by Bob - KI4RWL.
- Generators
We had the opportunity to compare the Yamaha and a Honda inverter based generator. The Yamaha had noise on the communication software when running while the Honda had no noise on the frequency display.
Bob - W5RE has been in contact with Yamaha - North America about this noise issue.
- Time to break down the antennas needs to be discussed among the operators present at Field Day. We don't need to start breaking down too early if there are operators that still want to make a few more contacts on Sunday am.
- We need more operators on the radio. We had long spans where there was no activity on the radios.
- Thanks to Bob - W5RE and Steve - W6EOD for providing this year's CW contacts. Bob also copied the ARRL Bulletin.
- A special thanks goes to Malcolm Reed and Jr. Williams for the Friday evening meal! A country boil and fried mullet was an excellent meal. Also thanks to Debra for the Rib eye steaks and to Pat for the Boston Butts on Saturday. We also thank everyone else who also contributed to this year's Field Day.
New Business:
- Susan Carpenter is the new Covington County EMA Director. She will take over the new EMA office at the County Administration Building on July 27th , 2009.
- A Severe Weather Spotter's Class was discussed. John will contact the NWS Mobile about having a class on either the September 17th or October 15th Club Meeting dates.
- There will be a SARC Repeater work party Sunday, July 19, 2009 to get an idea what we need to get the 147.260 back operating properly. John will look in the shed for the Micor test sets and contact Clay Brown about the repeater amps and other parts he has. We will need this together for Sunday.
- Bob - W5RE mentioned that we should work on a vacuum tube transceiver that would not contain any solid state parts as a club project. This radio would not be affected by any EMP like a modern rig
.
- The Milton Hamfest is this Friday and Saturday. Plans are to meet at McDonalds at 6:00am and pull out at 6:30am.
Adjournment:
The July meeting of the South Alabama Radio Club was adjourned at 8:09pm.
